Special diets, like CNM Clinical Nutrition Management® NF-FORMULA® Veterinary Diets, can play an important role in helping manage a dog or cat with kidney disease. This booklet discusses kindey disease, how your veterinarian may diagnose and treat it, and what you can do provide to the best care for your pet at home.

Common Types of Kidney Disease
There are many causes of kidney conditions, Hereditary forms can be seen in young animals in which their kidneys fail to develop and mature normally. More often, however, kidney disorders occur in older pets and are the result of damage caused by conditions such as infectious diseases , toxins, and immunologic disorders. Kidney disease that occurs suddenly is called acute. If the disease progresses slowly, it is referred to as chronic.
